Bike Bag Factory Audit Checklist: What to Verify Before an OEM Order
A good-looking sample shows what a supplier can make once. A factory review helps you understand how the next production run will be managed.
For brands sourcing bike bags, rain covers or passenger cushions, focus on evidence connected to a real product. Ask the supplier to show how materials enter production, how work is checked and what happens when something goes wrong.
- Confirm Who Does the Work Check the legal entity on the quotation and identify the production location. Ask which operations are completed in-house and which use outside partners. Printing, embroidery, coating or specialist joining processes may involve other businesses. What matters is knowing who performs the work and who controls the result. During a visit or live video tour, ask to see relevant cutting, sewing, inspection and packing areas. Use the tour to understand the setup; do not treat it alone as proof of ownership or capacity.
- Follow One Material into Production Choose a material from the proposed product and ask the supplier to explain: How it is identified when received. What incoming checks are performed. How rejected or questionable material is separated. How the approved material is matched to the order. How substitutions are controlled. If a branded component or certified material is specified, ask what supporting documentation can be provided. Confidential records may need redaction, but the proposed material should still be identifiable.
- Review Inspection Records “We check everything” needs a clear definition. Ask what is inspected during sewing, what is checked before packing and which measurements or functions are recorded. A useful checklist should relate to the product: strap position, opening size, cushion dimensions, attachment security or another agreed requirement. Also distinguish between checking every piece and conducting particular tests on selected samples. A statement of “100% inspection” does not mean every item receives every possible test. Request a completed, anonymised inspection record where available.
- Ask How Problems Are Handled Ask the supplier to walk through a previous production issue without disclosing confidential customer information. What was found? How was the affected stock identified? Who approved the correction? How was the result checked? The purpose is to understand the corrective process, not to demand a claim that problems never happen. Confirm how an unresolved issue on your order would be communicated and who can authorise a material or construction change.
- Check Capacity Against Your Order Discuss your expected quantity, colour split and delivery window. Ask which materials have longer purchasing times, which operations could limit output and how the order would fit into the production schedule. If outside processes are involved, include them in the discussion. A short sewing time does not necessarily mean a short total lead time. Request a schedule with clear dependencies rather than judging capability from one promised delivery date.
- Record What Is Confirmed—and What Is Missing Use a simple review sheet: Status Meaning Confirmed Relevant evidence has been reviewed. Clarification needed The answer is incomplete or supporting information is pending. Not acceptable The proposed arrangement does not meet an agreed requirement. Assign an owner and a follow-up date to open items. Resolve critical gaps before approving production, and revisit the relevant checks when the factory, materials or production arrangement changes.
