A supplier may send an attractive price and a good-looking bag sample. Neither tells you whether a rain cover will fit your cargo bike, whether a passenger cushion will stay in position, or whether the next production run will match the approved sample.
If you are sourcing fabric accessories for a bicycle brand, ask the supplier to walk through one real product with you.
Start with the bicycle. Send photos, dimensions or a drawing of your model. Where will the accessory attach? What must the rider still be able to reach? Does the product need to be removed, folded or cleaned? A supplier who asks these questions before quoting is already looking beyond the appearance of the sample.
Then ask why they chose the materials. “Outdoor fabric” is not a specification. Ask which fabric is proposed, how it suits the expected rain and sun exposure, and whether another option would better fit your budget. Do the same for zippers, buckles and webbing. If a certified material is proposed, ask for documentation covering that particular material.
Look closely at how sample changes are handled. Most new accessories need adjustments. What matters is whether the supplier records the problem, changes the pattern or construction, and checks the revised sample on the intended bike. Ask which sample and specification will become the reference for production.
Finally, discuss inspection before discussing promises. Identify the measurements and functions that cannot vary: strap position, mounting fit, opening size or cushion thickness, for example. Ask when these points will be checked during production and before packing.
